This digital condenser microphone is designed to provide plug and play audio capture functionalities that are compatible with an array of devices ranging from laptops to smartphones. Optimum Sound Quality

A lot of times, when consumers look at an affordable microphone, its sound quality is always in question. This is actually pretty normal, but with the Shure MV5, you can cast your doubts aside. It is designed with a Custom-Tuned 16mm microphone capsule (electret condenser type), which ensures optimal sound recording performance in any situation.

Sound Quality

The MV5, just like most of its full-fledged condenser counterparts, is also capable of capturing frequencies that covers the whole human hearing range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. You can be sure that no sonic detail in your voice will be left out. The cardioid polar pattern will also ensure that you won’t be getting unwanted noises from the back of the microphone.

On-Board Controls and VersatilityApple Compatibility

In my opinion, the major highlight of the Shure MV5 is its compatibility with a wide array of devices. If you are comfortable working with Apple devices, then you don’t have to worry at all, because the MV5 is “Apple MFi” certified. This means that you can connect the MV5 into any iOS devices without needing any additional connection adaptors.

Need to monitor your voice in real-time? You can do that by simply plugging in your headphones into the built-in 3.5mm headphones output. You can also switch between three different DSP modes (Vocals, Flat, Instrument), which will automatically apply custom-tailored Compression, Gain, EQ and Limiter settings, in order to produce the best sound.

High Quality Accessories

Every purchase of the Shure MV5 comes with useful accessories that will benefit your recording projects. The one you’ll definitely like the best is the sturdy desktop stand that is made of anodized aluminum. It has an integrated thread mount that is compatible with any 1/4″ standard camera tripod. This ensures the overall operational stability of the MV5.

MV5 Accessories

To make things better, Shure has taken the extra step in order to save you the trouble of finding compatible cables for connectivity. Two cables will be included in every MV5 package: (1) Micro-B to USB cable and (1) Micro-B to Lightning cable. Do take note that, together with the included stand, the Shure MV5 measures only 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall.

ConclusionBest Price

There is really nothing much to say about the Shure MV5 USB microphone, other than it provides great value at an affordable price point. As an audio engineer, I always find myself using a microphone from Shure in many situations, whether in the recording studio, or during live shows. I personally find it hard to find flaws with most Shure products.

When it comes to sound recording quality, I can confidently say that Shure will not disappoint. However, you should not compare the MV5 with other studio quality condenser microphones out there. The MV5 is specifically designed to be portable, and versatile, with a relatively great audio recording performance. Its geared more towards voiceovers and acoustic performances. If you are looking for simplicity without sacrificing quality, then the Shure MV5 is the perfect choice!

When I'm not rocking out to great music, I'd prefer to be sleeping on a field on a windy day =)

  1. HI and thanks for the info. can’t believe the timing! We have musos in our family and a condensor mic has been put on the Xmas list. As they are still not earning money full time, price is part of the equation and it looks like this Shure might might fulfill their needs. They have the standard dynamic mics but are looking for a little better quality when making their recording. Hopefully the Shure MV5 will do the trick!

    • Hey Gavin!

Glad to know that you have found what you are looking for. The Shure MV5 is something that will provide great value for the money. The on-board features and durable design will serve you well in the long run!

      Thanks for visiting!

  2. As a creative person who loves making videos on youtube and loves music I will keep this in mind. I love the price point and I am looking to expand my creative activities and get more serious and professional. Like buying a very good video camera and improving sound output .
I will keep this product in mind when I do. I am glad that you told us about Shure. I will look for their name when I do shop as well. Now that I know that they are known as one of the best …
Question. Youtube has some pretty good options to fix or better your recordings after you do them. Why should one invest in one of these instead of just using Youtubes free stuff?

    • Hi there!

Its always great to have creative people visiting my site. With regards to your question, it is a very well-known principle in the world of professional audio, that the raw recording has to be of the highest quality possible before the mixing process. You want the best quality “ingredients” for cooking, in order to produce the best tasting dishes, am I right? The same goes with audio production.

Hence, it is very important to use relatively high quality equipment when recording, to ensure you get the highest quality end product (final audio mix). Any further signal processing done to the raw recording, whether on YT or other software, should only be to “enhance” the sound, and not to completely change it.

      Hope that helps. Thanks!
